FAQ

Dim-to-Warm is a technology that lowers an LED’s color temperature when dimmed, allowing for smooth variations in warm white light (from 3000K to 1800K). This was designed to imitate the familiar, natural feeling of dimmed incandescent lighting, while delivering highly efficient lighting.

1.Dim to warm LED strips have only two wires from their appearance, but most tunable white led strips have three wires.

2.Dim to warm is generally a pre-set color temperature, 3000 K to 1800 K. The color temperature varies according to the brightness and is highest when it is brightest. The color temperature combinations of tunable white strips are flexible and can be 2700K+6500K or any other color temperature combination. And the brightness and color temperature are independently variable from each other. With the controller, you can choose any color you like.

3.Dim to warm LED strips do not require a controller. They only need to be connected to a dimming power supply or dimmer. Instead, you need a tunable white controller to make the tunable white LED strip to change color.

There are two types of technical solutions for implementing Dim to warm.

Solution 1: Combination with red-chip LEDs and blue-chip LEDs.
The operating voltage of red-chip LEDs is lower than that of blue-chip LEDs. When the dimming power supply or dimmer turns down the voltage, the blue-chip LEDs will dim faster than the red-chip LEDs until the blue-chip LEDs are off and the red-chip LEDs are off subsequently. Usually, the blue-chip LEDs have a high color temperature, and the red-chip LEDs have a low color temperature. When dimming, as the overall brightness becomes darker, the high color temperature LEDs become darker faster than the low color temperature LEDs, decreasing the overall color temperature.
This type dim to warm led strip has LEDs and resistors only and no IC. So this type dim to warm LED strip will be cheaper. However, it needs to be used in conjunction with a voltage-regulated dimming power supply. Voltage-regulated dimming power supplies are not easily sourced on the market.

Solution 2: Combination with regular blue-chip LEDs and ICs.
The Dim-to-warm strip light with ICs has an internal control circuit that dims the higher CCT LED chip first and later starts to control the current of the lower CCT chip. The color temperature gets warmer when dimmed. Dim-to-Warm follows a dimming curve to simulate the dimming of an incandescent lamp.
The technology allows standard dimmers to provide sophisticated control and smooth, natural dimming.
If using this type dim to warm led strip with dimming power supply, make sure the power supply is PWM output dimming. And PWM output dimming power supply is very common in the market. You can buy it very quickly.
